On today's artist of the Whenever i feel like it: Trueno

He isn't exactly a new artist for me but he is one i've lately been paying more attention to. If you are not from Argentina or at least Latinamerica the chances of you knowing who Trueno is are not very high, and if you do know him it's probably through the song he did recently with Gorillaz for their latest, yet to be released, album: The Manifesto (which is fucking awesome).

This is however not the first time Trueno does something with Gorillaz, the first time was 3 years ago when they came to Argentina for the Quilmes Rock Festival. I really love Damon's reactions because you can tell he does Not understand a thing of what Trueno is saying but he fw it.

This whole collab was made in the first place thanks to Damon Albarns daughter being a fan of Trueno and telling Damon they should do something with him, she actually listens to a lot of argentinian artists and even has a picture with one of my favorite ones: Dillom. I am praying from the bottom of my heart that she at some point convinces Damon to do something with Dillom, i swear to god i will Die if that happens.

Another important introductory piece definitely is the Tiny Desk concert he did in 2021, made in his home neighbourhood of La Boca. This video has the amazing addition of having english subtitles, i highly reccomend watching it with those enabled.

The album BIEN O MAL is where most songs from the previous videos are. This is the only album of him i have listened to fully, but i do plan on listening more of his work so this page might get updates in the future.

In his most recent projects, we can find the song Gil he did with the amazing artist Milo J (i plan on writing about him too in the future). I have made a translation to english of the lyrics, you can find that here.

Lastly, not long ago, he did a concert with a full symphonic orchestra. Seeing him live already fucking blows my mind, but this concert is just.. Holy Shit. I made a playlist with all the songs in order.

Having already showed that, i want to take time to appreciate how proudly Trueno stands in his identity, his neighbourhood, his country, his culture. This, aside from how beautiful i think his songs are, is what compelled me to write this article in the first place. It is common for people from third world countries to follow the current and believe that they are less than the USA or Europe. It is refreshing to see an artist bask in the latinoamerican identity beyond just the surface level. In every song, in every concert, in every interview he makes sure to show his love for this country that i too call mine. I truly wish everyone felt as proud of where they come from as he and i do.
