before i start, i will say that this was very difficult to translate, not on a technical level but on a spiritual one. what i mean by that is that in order for this to be semmantically understandable in english i had to butcher the fuck out of the lyrics. that, plus how hard it was for my linguistic loving heart to research on english conjugations, was just .. depressing.
like seriously, look at the difference.
looking at the english one makes me sad. what do you mean subjuntive verb conjugations practically don't exist in english ???? but anyway, minor freak out aside, i did do the translation.
lyrics:
when the boiling water were to stop burning
and you were to be a slave of your history
when you were to tell the truth about those misguided tears
when hearing a "yes" were to sound wrong
and you were to ask time to go back
when you were to see the unread pages that are passed
when you were to see how dumb you were yesterday
and how wrong you still are
you were so happy you didn't understand it's not forever
alone you are and alone you have learned to be
because you live with fear of loving again
i hope you are loved the way you loved
three knocks, three knocks, just three knocks
and to the beat of villa nueva, just three knocks
[x2]
now i'm feeling that uneasiness
of wanting to be someone that isn't here anymore
right there is the "when" of my "why"
and that is the "why" of my loneliness/solitude
taking short steps to the altar
but long steps to improvement
in the dirty game of being happy without suffering double
alone you are and alone you have learned to be
because you live with fear of loving again
i hope you are loved the way you loved
how bad must it be to live [like this] for us to not fear the end
i can't find a fucking boat in the road of the lights
i'm still angry at myself, i'm giving bad omens with the bodies of others
through the dark corners of the road of the lights
three knocks, three knocks, just three knocks
(help me with this)
and to the beat of villa nueva, just three knocks
(stop giving me advice)
three knocks, three knocks, just three knocks
(i look at the weight of time)
and to the beat of villa nueva, just three knocks
when the boiling water were to stop burning
and you were to be a slave of your history
when you were to tell the truth about those misguided tears
alone you are and alone you have learned to be
because you live with fear of loving again
i hope you are loved
notes:
- the original lyrics say "malauguriando", the translation is not inaccurate but i want to point out how the word is the transformation of the concept of "mal augurio/agüero" into a verb, it's literally "giving bad omens" concentrated into just one word. i think that is beautiful.
